Nigerian fish pie recipe

Nigerian Fish Pie is a delectable deep-fried Nigerian snack loaded with fish.

The fish pie has a similar shape to the Nigerian Chicken pie and Meat pie. Unlike the Nigerian Meat and Chicken Pies, which are baked and filled with minced meat, the Nigerian Fish Pie is deep-fried and filled with fish.

Cooking method

Toss the fish in a pot with a little water, onions, curry, thyme, garlic powder, stock cube, and salt & pepper to taste. Cook until the fish is cooked through. NOTE: You can also use canned cooked fish; however, you will not need to re-cook it.

Remove the fish and part of the cooked onions and set aside to cool (the cooked onions help to keep the inside of the Fish Pie moist after frying); next, remove the bones and mash the fish.

Next, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl; add the whisked egg and melted margarine/butter, mix well, and gradually add cool water. Continue to combine until you have a solid dough.

After kneading, let the dough rest for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, place the dough on a level table/board, cut off a piece, and roll flat using a rolling pin.

Make a square/rectangle out of the flat dough, or any other shape you desire.

Continue folding one end of the dough to meet the other end and sealing the ends with the point of a fork with the remaining dough.

Fry the fish pies in high-temperature vegetable oil over medium heat. Cook until golden brown on both sides of the fish pie, then drain excess oil in a strainer lined with paper towels.

That’s it, guys!

Enjoy your fish pie with a chilled drink or yogurt.
